Zhong Fang is Research Director at the Institute for Ecological Design, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University, and Co-Lead of the Social Innovation and Sustainable Design Lab (DESIS Lab). She specializes in sustainable design and social innovation design, with research encompassing waste systems, food systems, design for aging populations, and community design.
In recent years, she has published over 20 peer-reviewed papers in both Chinese and English. She contributed to China's first Chinese-language monograph on sustainable design, Sustainable Design, and translated the seminal work on social innovation design, Design, When Everybody Designs (original by Ezio Manzini), marking its first Chinese edition.
Professionally, she has participated in numerous major research projects, including:
Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission’s Major Project: "Service Design Research and Demonstration for Integrated Sanitation Systems"
Ministry of Ecology and Environment’s First Batch of "Zero Waste City" Pilot Projects: "Zero Waste City" Planning for Guangze County, Fujian Province.
She holds several academic appointments, including:
Deputy Director, Sustainable Design Committee, Beijing Industrial Design Promotion Association
Committee Member, "Beautiful Community Project" Committee, China Federation of Social Work.
